Adam Sandler’s “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” In Production
How’s this for a power lineup of comedy writers: Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, Robert Smigel. The trio has collaborated on the screenplay for You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, a new Sandler movie that’s been shooting in NYC the past couple weeks — just as Sandler’s latest, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, eclipses the $100 million mark.

Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage) and Sandler shooting in Central Park on August 6
In Zohan, Sandler plays a Mossad agent who fakes his own death and flees to New York so he can realize his dream: To become a hairdresser. Who else but three Jewish guys would make fun of a member of Israel’s intelligence agency?
THE DIRECTOR: Dennis Dugan, currently enjoying the success of I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. (He also directed Zohan exec producer Rob Schneider in The Benchwarmers.)
THE CAST: Sandler, Chriqui, Schneider, Shelley Berman (Larry’s dad in Curb Your Enthusiasm)
You Don’t Mess with the Zohan is being co-produced by Sandler’s Happy Madison and Apatow Productions, and will be released some time in 2008.
DON’T HANG UP: Sandler and Apatow were once roommates, and Apatow tells stories about Sandler’s overactive comedy mind: he’d call a deli posing as an old woman to complain about the food and see how long he could keep the clerk on the phone.
QUESTION: Which Sandler do you prefer?
a) goofy character Sandler (The Waterboy);
b) romantic comedy Sandler (50 First Dates);
c) serious actor Sandler (Spanglish)
