An ENTOURAGE Movie? A Definite Maybe.

It’s rare that a television series, no matter how entertaining, is well-suited for the big screen. Perhaps it’s the difference in format. Or the ways in which we’re conditioned to seeing our favorite shows on a 42″ screen while sitting on the couch. Now, one of our favorites looks to be next: Entourage executive producer Mark Wahlberg, at the premiere of The Lovely Bones, admitted there may be a feature film version of the series in the works, after what is probably two more seasons on HBO.

According to a quote on The Hollywood Reporter’s site, an HBO spokesperson didn’t say ‘yea’ or ‘nay’: “It is not out of the realm of possibility.” (Either way, the idea of a Sopranos movie is still hanging out there somewhere…)
Here’s our take: It won’t work. We get a huge kick out of Entourage in it’s current medium, but a 90-minute feature in theaters is a whole other ballgame. It would have to be impeccably written to make the transition well (something X-Files writers couldn’t figure out), and the acting would need to take a super leap in quality. When Kevin Dillon and Jerry Ferrara chew up the scenery on the small screen, its got a smirky wise-ass quality that yields a smile. In theaters, for $11 a ticket, most moviegoers expect a little more depth and smarts, even with comedy.
Is this something you want to see?
