Best Picture Oscar Nominations: If Moviegoers Picked

With the Academy Awards one week away, prognostication continues for the biggest award: Best Picture. But why should we moviegoers just guess? What if we regular folks actually determined the Best Picture, instead of some anonymous voters?

Introducing our inaugural Meet In the Lobby People’s Best Picture nominations… using the Internet Movie Database votes as our guidelines.

(Why the IMDb? Why not. They’re the most thorough, popular movie site available and tens of thousands of movie fans use their rating system, including me. It’s the most universal online barometer we can think of.)

PEOPLE’S BEST PICTURE NOMINATIONS
:: The Bourne Ultimatum
:: Juno
:: No Country for Old Men
:: Ratatouille
:: There Will Be Blood

AND THE WINNER IS… THERE WILL BE BLOOD

Here’s how it works: All five of the People’s Nominations appear on the IMDb’s Top 250 of All Time. There Will Be Blood is currently ranked 18th (amazing, actually), with a 8.8 rating. No Country for Old Men is 34th. Ratatouille, 115th; The Bourne Ultimatum, 125th; and Juno, 135th.

If we can do this with the highest-ranking movies of 2007, we can also do it for the worst. Your most-hated movie of last year is… Who’s Your Caddy?

The stupefyingly silly comedy currently has a 1.5 rating on the IMDb, making it the 4th worst film of all time. C’mon, it’s not THAT bad…

What’s your Best Picture pick?
