Date Set for Sacha Baron Cohen’s BRUNO

Sacha Baron Cohen as BrunoYou know those numbnuts that didn’t “get” the not-so-subtle brilliance of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat? They’re gonna be confused as hell when Cohen’s fashion femme Bruno hits the big screen May 15, 2009, as Universal reported to Variety yesterday. (See our original report from September 2007.)

While other details are slim, we can only hope Cohen will give to his craft enough to a) be forced into an uncomfortable intimate same-sex encounter; or b) get socked in the jaw by some cro-magnon homophobe. Should we plan on seeing Ken Davitian in another uncompromising position?

Universal’s release date places Bruno in the thick of the summer box-office crunch, featuring three sequels: head-to-head with Angels and Demons, the sequel to The DaVinci Code (guh) and one week before two monster-lengthed titles, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins and Night at the Museum II: Escape from the Smithsonian.

After Bruno, Cohen is starring in the punk rock-meets-Hasidic Jew comedy Curly Oxide and Vic Thrill, Dinner for Schmucks (see details — click and scroll), and Steven Spielberg’s The Trial of the Chicago 7.
