GENERATION KILL: Episode 3

Now we know there’s a method to the moustache madness enacted by Sgt. Sixta (Neal Jones). And we also know the rough-and-ready sergeant’s biggest fear: letting down his superiors. Bravo has seen its first combat, and here’s what’s next:

Alexander Skarsgard and Stark Sands in HBO’s Generation Kill

Episode 3 Summary: “Screwby”
While awaiting their next recon orders, Bravo company encounters an horrific act of violence committed by a regimental combat team. After “Encino Man” (Brian Wade) puts the troops in jeopardy in the town of Ar Rifa, Bravo receives the urgent order to capture an airfield currently controlled — and defended — by the Iraqi Republican Guard.

In their 40 km travels, the company experiences friendly fire, as well as an order to continue through nightfall, treating every Iraqi as hostile. As you can imagine, not all targets end up being dangerous ones, and one soldier may be in a heap of trouble for those he’s hit. But what about the officer who gave the order to shoot?

An ardent War Film Follower spanning many years and many nationalities including my past favorite “Tutamaten Sotila” - the unknown Soldier” a Finnish film and the best Anti-War film I’d seen before. But “Generation Kill” has to be the best Anti-War film , by far, That I have ever seen. And I commend Home Box Office for having sponsored it at this time when such information is so critically needed!

In my opinion, I don’t think they’re aiming for the film to be anti-war. I think they’re doing the best job possible to bring Evan Wright’s book to the screen — and let the opinions fall where they may.

    Thanks for joining in.
