This Just In: HBO Renews TRUE BLOOD

After just two episodes anchoring HBO’s new Sunday night, the Alan Ball vampire series True Blood has been renewed for a second season.

From HBO’s True Blood

Production for Season 2 will begin in Los Angeles in early 2009, with episode airings starting Summer 2009.

How’d this happen so fast? First, a combination of excellent critical reception and a big audience gain from the show’s pilot to week #2 — a 24% increase according to HBO’s PR.

Second, I’d guess it’s because Alan Ball is an A-list talent worth holding onto. Ball, who turned heads internationally with his screenplay for American Beauty, created and molded HBO’s wild ride Six Feet Under, and has just made his directorial debut with Towelhead (also known as Nothing Is Private outside the US).

Third, True Blood has kinky sex and danger. As opposed to Tell Me You Love Me, which also had kinky sex, but no danger. And last, will there be an ongoing thirst for vampires once Twilight is released?

Good news! I subscribed to HBO just to see this series. It is based on the books by Charlaine Harris. I have read them all, and they will make a terrific series. I also plan on buying the DVD’s once they are released. Alan Ball has a hit on his hands!

    YAHOO!!!!!!!!

I dare say I was getting hooked on True Blood through the ad campaign alone, but I found myself over-the-top addicted when Bill walked into Merlotte’s in Epside 1. Good Heavens…….can a being get any sexier? Phew….hot, Hot, HOT !!!!!!!! I think I’m in danger of wearing out my V.O.D. button on the remote!!!!!!

    Way to go HBO!!!!

So, am I correct in assessing that women love this series?
