HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 Rules the World
Didn’t you hear? You can love all the intriguing, beguiling indie movies you desire, all the big-bomber Michael Bay-style Hollywood features you want… but it’s really High School Musical’s world. The rest of us are just paying rent. At least according to Disney.
The Mouse House has been giddily sending us photos from a whirlwind of premieres for High School Musical 3: Senior Year, the sequel that has preteens salivating. You’d think this was a PR tour for a Steven Spielberg-Tom Cruise movie.

Oh, they’re just all so freaking cute. And they’re about to be part of one of the biggest movie phenomena of the year.
So before you slam us for covering HSM3 (so cool!), consider this: In the UK, ticket presales just broke the record previously held by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Predictions for the U.S. opening weekend hover around the $60 million mark. And conventional wisdom says the movie will finish as one in the 2008 Top Ten for highest grossing films in North America.
That’s too much Hollywood power to ignore. Just wait until that Jonas Brothers 3-D movie in 2009. For real. The Disney machine continues…
