ORIGINAL POST
HBO let us know that Season 2 of the innovative shrink drama In Treatment is currently in production, with the first episode hitting the air in April. I picture many In Treatment fans making HBO On Demand a nightly obsession all spring long…

So just two days after Gabriel Byrne wins the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV series, here’s everything you need to know about Season 2.

:: RETURNING ACTORS
- Gabriel Byrne as the confused Dr. Paul Weston
- Dianne Wiest (so great in Synecdoche, New York) as Paul’s therapist, Dr. Gina Toll
- Glynn Turman, in a returning guest appearance as Alex Sr., father to Blair Underwood’s character. He won an Emmy for playing this role in Season 1.

Hope Davis, in the cast for In Treatment Season 2:: NEW CAST MEMBERS
Hope Davis (left, Synecdoche, American Splendor), Russell Hornsby (TV’s Lincoln Heights), John Mahoney (Dan in Real Life, TV’s Frasier), Alison Pill (Milk), Sherri Saum (TV’s Rescue Me), youth actor Aaron Shaw

And we love that Half Nelson filmmaker Ryan Fleck has joined the directors lineup. We’ve admired this guy since his 2003 short with partner Anna Boden, Have You Seen This Man?

:: PLOT PREVIEW
A divorced Paul (Byrne) moves to Brooklyn and operates his practice out of his brownstone. Without the blood-stained couch, I’m assuming?

His five patients for Season 2: Mia (Davis), an attorney and former patient, whose firm is defending Paul in a lawsuit (Hello!? Conflict of interest?!); Oliver (Shaw), an 11-year-old with pushy parents (Hornsby and Saum) and an eating disorder; Walter (Mahoney), a CEO in a heap of personal and professional trouble; and April (Pill), a 23-year-old diagnosed with cancer.

As for Gina (Wiest)? Oh yeah, on Fridays Paul will take the train back to Maryland to continue treatment with his old therapist / friend / nemesis.

:: SEASON 1 ON DVD
Not available yet, but Amazon is accepting pre-orders at a 37% discount. Let’s hope it’s released before Season 2 hits air.

We’d love to hear from our In Treatment fans. Any thoughts?
Speak up!

    This is one of the most well-written, brilliantly acted shows I have ever seen. While there were many good actors in the “best actor” category with Gabriel Byrne, none of them were presented with the same acting challenges and none were more deserving of the award.

    He memorized about 22 pages of script every other day in order to film the 5 weekly half-hour dramas , and he was in almost every single scene of the 9 week series. The quality of his portrayal was flawless. Byrne conveyed his emotions: compassion, anger, pain, surrender, ( the man makes an art of “surrender.), sometimes with just a glance or a smile, other times with his particular brand of heart-wrenching, soulful, half-whispered brilliance.

    If you didnt catch this show the first time around, HBO is about to air the reruns and you owe it to yourself to watch it.
    If you aren’t completely hooked by the middle of week 2, I would be very surprised.

    Season one was amazing, unfortunatley I dont have HBO anymore and i really hope that they put the next season on their website. Or if anybody knows any legal websites where i could possibly watch this show please let me know. Gabriel Byrne is a sexy man.

    I’m disappointed that Laura won’t be back…

    @Mrs. L
    Ah, you’re a big fan of the unstable, controlling near-psychotic women. Yeah, they do make excellent characters, I will give you that.

    I hope they keep bringing this show back again and again. Finally something unique and interesting and intriguing to watch. It’s different from anything else on television.
