MOVIE POSTER MONDAY: Bob Dylan Biopic “I’m Not There”
Our preview for Todd Haynes’ ambitious Bob Dylan movie I’m Not There has grabbed some interest, so we wanted to share the poster. Take a look and find the four main actors playing the legendary musical poet.
That’s definitely Richard Gere at the far left. And as we learned from a clip from the movie, that’s Cate Blanchett second from left. Then Christian Bale in the pompadour and, on the far right, Heath Ledger. Did I get that right?

This visual is a cheeky reference to Dylan’s famous video (or film, I suppose) for the classic song Subterranean Homesick Blues. In the video, Dylan holds a stack of cards with lyrics on each card, tossing them to the ground as the song progresses. The original version was shot as the open to D.A. Pennebaker’s Dylan documentary Don’t Look Back. Here’s the version of Subterranean Homesick Blues most people have seen.
Anyway, I think it’s great to see all four Dylan actors on one poster, in costume and makeup. To alleviate (or add to?) the confusion, the tagline reads “The Lives and Time of Bob Dylan”.
The film screened at the Toronto Film Festival and is also scheduled for the New York Film Festival. As we previously reported, the film’s theatrical run will begin in New York City November 21.

I can’t stand Bob Dylan, slo I’ll probably skip this. The idea of Cate Blanchett playing Dylan turns my stomach a little.
