Movie Poster Monday: DISASTER MOVIE, Simpsons Style
Look, we don’t hold out too much hope for the future of spoof cinema. Since the Wayans Brothers gave up the Scary Movie franchise, it’s been a miserable graveyard of crappy visual gags. But this Disaster Movie poster, just in from Lionsgate, is really too good. (Click on it for the biggie.)
So will they be spoofing The Simpsons Movie and, if so, will it be animated? Do you care? Maybe not, unless the following floats your boat:
The filmmakers: Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. Give them a pat on the back for co-writing the early Scary Movie entries. Slap them silly for writing and directing Date Movie, Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans. Actually, they’re already as needlessly silly as it gets, so forget it.
The cast: Carmen Electra, Kim Kardashian (I can’t freakin’ believe I just typed that) and G.Thang.
The title: It ends in “Movie”. Again. I understand the need for a franchise attempt (Date Movie pulled in $48 million in theaters, Epic Movie $39 million). But if a film title ends in “Movie,” you may want to think twice. Exemption: Mel Brooks’ Silent Movie, of course.
