Movie Poster Monday: Jake Paltrow’s “The Good Night”

There’s another Paltrow headed for big-screen credentials: Gwyneth’s little brother, Jake. He’s the writer-director of the upcoming comedy The Good Night. He’s nailed down an impressive cast for his first film and, hey, they’re all featured on the poster!

The Good Night Movie PosterRecognize ‘em? If you weren’t aware, The Good Night has sleep and dreams at its narrative center. Down-on-his-luck songwriter Martin Freeman has an unbelievably perfect relationship with Penelope Cruz, but there’s one catch: She only exists in his dream life.

An arresting poster, it uses the stars’ fame yet covers their eyes. There’s an artistry to it, advertising a relationship movie where the characters “have their eyes closed” to certain situations.

Gwyneth Paltrow — must be tough a get, casting your sister — plays Freeman’s girlfriend, and Danny DeVito plays a quirky, new age-style guy that helps Freeman.

The Good Night has been making the film festival rounds since Sundance 2007, and begins a limited U.S. run October 5.

And by the way, don’t confuse Jake Paltrow with Jake Kasdan. Young directors named Jake connected via nepotism… it can happen.

There are already two high quality (at least) dream movies that have come out these past few years, The indie-style Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine. Have you seen this and those and how does this differ and compare?

Good question, but I haven’t seen The Good Night Yet, so I couldn’t say.

By the way, it’s worth pointing out that the two films you mentioned are directed by the same person, Michel Gondry.
