Here’s this week’s poster, a quad design for the festival hit Shotgun Stories. Very reminiscent of the elements that have made No Country for Old Men such a visual draw: gun slung over the shoulder, open land, big sky, serious foreboding.
This first-time drama from writer-director Jeff Nichols — about a real family feud — started making the festival rounds last winter in Germany, then hit Cannes, Sydney and Paris before landing in Austin last October. This poster is the official UK version, for the April 11, 2008 opening.
Shotgun Stories is produced by David Gordon Green, director of George Washington, Undertow and the upcoming Seth Rogen comedy Pineapple Express. If you’re not familiar with Shotgun Stories, you indie fans may recognize the title thanks to a John Cassavetes Award nomination at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards.
Next up for Nichols: He’s teaming up again with Green for Goat, based on Brad Land’s controversial book about the perils of fraternity hazing. Nichols will direct and Green’s writing the screenplay. Keep your eyes open for an unannounced 2010 release.
