Dree Hemingway has a famous name and the kind of face that attracts attention. No wonder she’s featured — caressed by a moody veil of cigarette smoke — in the poster for Sean Baker’s new indie feature, Starlet, hitting the big screen at the SxSW Film Festival on March 11. The 24-year-old daughter of Mariel and granddaughter of Ernest plays Jane, a San Fernando Valley wastoid who tries to connect with 85-year-old Sadie (Besedka Johnson) following an unexpected discovery at Sadie’s yard sale.

Starlet will be in competition at SxSW, and it’s not fashion model Hemingway’s only indie film getting attention this week. She also makes an appearance in the coming-of-age movie Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You, which premiered at the Miami International Film Festival last night.
