NEW MOVIE PREVIEW: The Bank Job
If you’re going to tell the story of an infamous 1970s bank robbery, you may as well do it with good looking people. So Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows star in The Bank Job, a Lionsgate thriller about one of the world’s most mysterious crimes.
THE PLOT: In late 1971, London bank thieves tunneled their way into a Baker Street bank vault, stealing millions. There were no suspects. No recovered money. No found items. And the case actually vanished from the media due to a government gag notice. The Bank Job uncovers what went down, what got stolen, and the scandalous connections between the vault goods and some corrupt and powerful people.
THE DIRECTOR: Roger Donaldson, who did tension and espionage in No Way Out (1987) and Thirteen Days (2000). His most recent reviews were some of his best, for the 2005 Anthony Hopkins film The World’s Fastest Indian (still a favorite trailer…)
THE WRITERS: Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais (story writers on Across the Universe and Flushed Away)
THE RELEASE DATE: March 7, 2008
UPDATE (2/13/08)
Looks like The Bank Job is going big-time international. As of February 10, there are deals to distribute the film in 40 territories. I guess sexy bank robbers and juicy gossip are pretty universal languages.
