NYFF Grabs Aronofsky’s THE WRESTLER
Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler now has a new world premiere. The latest eye-popper from the Requiem for a Dream director has been chosen by the New York Film Festival as the 2008 Closing Night selection. That means a bunch of New Yorkers will conclude their festival festivities with an eerie-looking Mickey Rourke as the lingering taste in their mouths.
Cinematical offered the following still images from The Wrestler earlier this week. In the film, Rourke supposedly plays a retired wrestler still trying to make it on the smaller circuits. Marisa Tomei, ahem, plays a stripper. Does that shot of her remind you of that Jennifer Connelly closing scene in Requiem? Darren, are you putting women in compromising positions again?
By the way, if you can make out that sign in the crowd of the first photo, looks like Rourke’s character (or his opponent) is called “The Necrobutcher.” And that fan has something to say about his sexual preferences.
