The Informers is a collection of tales about some twisted characters — empty rock star, aging newscaster, creepy doorman, amoral ex-con — and their world of blondes, boobs and bastards, tearing through life as only Ellis characters can.

The book, published in 1994 (though Ellis wrote most of it a decade earlier), saw some medicore-to-poor reviews refer to the book as outdated and too derivative. For the film version, Ellis has co-written the screenplay with Nicholas Jarecki, a first-time feature writer who followed James Toback around for the documentary The Outsider (2005).
