Rachel Weisz Joins Peter Jackson’s “The Lovely Bones”

Variety has confirmed that Rachel Weisz, last seen in husband Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, will play the mother in Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of The Lovely Bones, the mega-bestseller by Alice Sebold.
In the book, Sebold presents life — and death — from the eyes of Susie, a murdered 14-year-old sharing her story from the afterlife. In Sebold’s delicate style, Susie conveys the wishes and hopes of a teenager that’s left the world far too soon.
The acclaimed Peter Jackson has written the script with his Lord of the Rings writing partners and will begin production in October.
Will Jackson keep Susie as narrator? Will he visually imagine her dreamy, post-life world? These questions recall Jackson’s real breakthrough film, Heavenly Creatures, a chronicle of two teenage sociopaths, and the bizarre fantasy life they created for themselves. Creatures, an early showcase stage for Kate Winslet, is considered by many to be Peter Jackson’s greatest movie. (not Rings fans, of course… )

Norm – Allison posited you had been the one who suggested The Fountain but as this (two year old) post is the only record of it I see on MITL I guess not. But FWIW, what a fantastic film. I cannot believe it got a 21% from top critics on rotten tomatoes. Why, just because it didn’t make literal sense? So punitive. Anyway, if you haven’t seen it, it’s fantastic, gorgeously shot.
