Review Roundup: INCREDIBLE HULK, THE HAPPENING
Here come two of the most curious big-studio releases of the summer. The Incredible Hulk lumbers into theaters with all sorts of cinematic baggage: Ang Lee’s previous attempt with Eric Bana, conflict between Edward Norton and the folks at Marvel (Tony Kaye is smiling and waving from somewhere), and premature buzz that the movie would underdeliver.
The Happening has often been mentioned in the same breath as “sinking career,” in reference to filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan. Is it the quality of The Sixth Sense or The Lady in the Water — which Ivan Reitman playfully called The Girl in the Pool — or something in between?

A respectable effort, highlighted by action that’s being applauded and appreciated nearly across the board. Proof, once again, that Edward Norton rarely chooses a poor project. Most viewers still don’t like the CGI Hulk, as was the case with Ang Lee’s 2003 film. Can someone please call Lou Ferrigno for the next film?

Man, not again! M. Night Shyamalan continues to create movies that land in the disappointment category for most. Once again, there’s appreciation for the concept and the setup… it’s the total execution that fails. I happened to watch Unbreakable again last week and realized how talented — and maybe a little bloated — Shyamalan is. Where is that guy?

Short of an “afternoon special” for adults…get it, take care of the environment, or it won’t take care of you!

[…] The Saturday morning after The Happening came out, I took advantage of AMC’s A.M. Cinema and paid only $5 to see it. I just couldn’t risk it after all the negative reviews. (see our review roundup of The Happening) […]
