Review Roundup: IRON MAN Super, MADE OF HONOR Sad

Want a roundup of the weekend’s movie reviews? Just come here.

Welcome to a new weekly feature here at The Lobby. Every Friday we’ll do a quick hit of the review vibe for the weekend. No better time to begin than with the year’s first blockbuster…

:: IRON MAN
Rotten Tomatoes: 95 / 100
Metacritic: 80 / 100
filmcritic.com: 3.5 / 5

Robert Downey, Jr., in Iron Man
Near invincible. An impressive, energetic, stylish way to kick off the summer. People really dig Robert Downey, Jr. The phrase “best superhero movie ever” is being liberally kicked around.

:: MADE OF HONOR
Rotten Tomatoes: 9 / 100
Metacritic: 41 / 100
filmcritic.com: 2 / 5

Michelle Monaghan and Patrick Dempsey in Made of Honor
Predictable, formulaic, cliched. It’s making most viewers long for My Best Friend’s Wedding instead. Didn’t you just wanna rent 27 Dresses or Enchanted, for God’s sake?

:: REDBELT
Rotten Tomatoes: 69 / 100
filmcritic.com: 4 / 5

Chiwetel Ejiofor in Redbelt
David Mamet aims to mix his intellectual mindplay and rough-guy martial arts — and most feel it doesn’t always work.

    Great summary.
    “Best superhero movie ever?” How many times have we heard that? I guess they keep getting better and better.

    Yes, there are many critics who get off on offering a good (bullshit) blurb. Hey, it gets their name in the paper! This time, the reviewers are almost unanimous that Iron Man is really the genuine article.
