Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have certainly done their share of shameless mugging in the past 15 or so years, but there’s no denying their powers. Remember the famous coffee shop scene the two shared in Heat? Man, that was cool personified.
So, can we forget the slop that is 88 Minutes and Hide and Seek and move along? Here’s Righteous Kill, with the two former Corleones portraying partners on a vigilante bent. Go get that bastard, guys.
If you’re wondering how a standard cop revenge movie nabbed both these guys — as well as 50 Cent, I mean, Curtis Armstrong — it may be the script. This one’s written by Russell Gewirtz, the screenwriter behind the wonderfully complex Inside Man. (Gewirtz is lined up to write the 2010 Inside Man sequel as well.)
Righteous Kill is set for a September 12 release.
What’s next for De Niro? First, the road trip movie Everybody’s Fine, followed by the crime drama Frankie Machine. (Oh, and the Heat videogame. Really.) For Pacino? A new version of Rififi, then playing Salvador Dali in Andrew Niccol’s Dali & I: The Surreal Story. (Yeah, and the Heat videogame.)
