Our friends at The Playlist tell us the first theatrical feature co-written and co-directed by brilliant Brits Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant began shooting this week. The film is Cemetery Junction, about three blue-collar pals hanging out in 1970s London. In an interview with The Big Issue, Gervais calls Cemetery Junction “our blue-collar Office.”

The Cast of Ricky Gervais’s Cemetery Junction

A trio of virtual newcomers (above, left to right by our list) has been cast in the three lead roles: TV actor Christian Cooke; Tom Hughes, whose also playing in the ’70s England-set Ian Dury biofilm Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll; and Jack Doolan, co-star of the TV series “The Green Green Grass.” Ralph Fiennes and Emily Watson will also appear.

Cemetery Junction is scheduled for a 2010 release. You can follow Gervais’ adventures in filmmaking on his Cemetery Junction blog.
