Disney announced today that production has officially begun on Marvel’s hugely anticipated, incredibly well-timed mega-mashup The Avengers. Regular Lobby readers know we’re not big comic adaptation fans, but this press photo is way too good to pass up.
Clearly, Disney has forgotten the names of the four actors playing their Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and Hulk. Either that, or they thought this image would really get the attention of, um… okay, we’re stumped. ‘Cause if you’re a comics fan, you don’t need this, you already know the superheroes in this film. And if you’re not a fan, you’re more likely to be curious about the actors, so here you go, from left to right: Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo.
Okay neophytes, need more stars? How’s Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel Jackson?
Joss Whedon’s The Avengers is currently shooting in Albuquerque and, from there, they’re off to Cleveland and New York City. Writer-director Whedon is backed by a crew that’s way top-notch, with Oscar nominees across the board, from photography to costume design to special FX.
The Avengers is set for a super gigantic May 4, 2012 release. Unless of course, set ADs take these chairs seriously and run around yelling for “Iron Man” and “Hulk” to come to the set, thus confusing the actors, delaying production and throwing a huge monkey wrench into the proceedings.
We’re sure everything will go just fine.
