Sicko Preview: Current Health Report on Michael Moore’s Documentary
If you’ve ever uttered “I can’t wait to see that movie!” the Weinstein Brothers understand.
After a Monday sneak preview of Michael Moore’s Sicko, the gonzo filmmaker’s thrashing of our ailing health care system, The Weinstein Company decided to release the movie to NYC theaters one week early. So, if you live in The Big Apple, you can line up this Friday.
(In 30 other cities — including L.A., Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas, Washington D.C. and Moore’s Flint, Michigan — you can see your own sneak preview Saturday night.)

Monday night’s New York preview concluded with a standing ovation — Moore films tend to elicit this type of reaction — prompting Harvey Weinstein to tell Variety, “(It) confirmed what we believe to be true since the film’s launch in Cannes … that audiences love this movie.”
Moore’s films have been left-leaning, of course, with Fahrenheit 9/11 acting as a mighty anti-Republican missive. With a film like that, debate roiled throughout the country: not everyone is a liberal, nor is everyone a conservative.
But Sicko is different: Everyone in this country has needed medical care. Many of us can complain about the service we’ve received; worse, some can complain about the care they haven’t received. Moore, typically defined as one-sided, has now tackled a tragedy that crosses party lines more than any of his previous films (except perhaps Roger and Me).
Moore is still preparing for a fight, however. Reuters reports he expects an “onslaught” in the form of an attack from the nation’s pharmaceutical and insurance companies, the clear villains in Sicko.
