ORIGINAL POST
Episode 10 — the final Season One entry for HBO’s Tell Me You Love Me — may be the strangest episode yet. To summarize: There’s a death (minor), a breakup, a reconciliation and one incredibly pivotal sex scene. Read on…

If you’re interested in season-ending spoilers, they’re hidden. To see each one, hold down your mouse key and roll over the empty space. (Hope you liked that in our Episode 9 recap.)

First, the aforementioned death: May (Jane Alexander) gets a call that her ex-flame (Ronny Cox) has died alone, at home. May immediately slides into guilty feelings, and insists on working. So she barely pays attention when Jamie rambles on about Hugo…

Michelle Borth in Tell Me You Love Me:: Jamie and Hugo
Oh well, no more Nick. Sorry to you chicks searching the phrase ”Ian Somerhalder” here at the Lobby. But big ups to Lobby reader Sarah, who called Nick “boring” and begged for Hugo’s return. The quick scoop: Jamie (Michelle Borth) and Hugo (Luke Farrell Kirby) run into each other at a gas station, share dinner at Jamie’s restaurant, and make nice over the phone — with no volatile physical connection. When Hugo finds a note on his windshield that says… (spoiler) “Marry Me”, the pair goes for it. We leave them just before the civil ceremony, sitting alone giggling and kissing like dumbass teenagers.

Adam Scott in Tell Me You Love Me:: Carolyn and Palek
Ouch. Wussy Palek (Adam Scott) packs his things and bolts. He’s so chicken shit about becoming a father he ceases to care about Carolyn (Sonya Walger). After super tense conversations between the pair… (spoiler) Carolyn finds out she’s had a miscarriage. Palek takes her home for the doctor’s office, and climbs into bed next to her to console her.

Ally Walker in Tell Me You Love Me:: Dave and Katie
After a couple of heated sessions with May, Dave (Tim DeKay) and Katie (Ally Walker) are hurt, confused, and at the end of their proverbial ropes. After Katie and Hugo share flirting glances at the restaurant — nice coincidence — Katie heads further down the path of not knowing who she really is. In the final scene… (spoiler) Katie challenges Dave to leave her. He tells her to fuck off. Then, in a fit of frustration, Dave kisses her. Katie reacts by taking off her shirt (a bold topless scene, even for this show) and the two have a dual masturbation session. No intercourse, but lots of fun love. I guess Dave still can’t seal the deal. Anyway, lots of strange symbolism here.

:: NOTES
Another outstanding directorial outing by Melanie Mayron, as Episode 10 feels uncomfortably out of balance. And the connections among couples finally starts to kick in — Palek and Dave get in a fight on a job site — just as the season ends.

As we’ve reported previously, Tell Me You Love Me has been renewed for Season Two. More details to follow.

My god…one hot ending. I’ve anticipated this particular episode and now, even the smallest thing has exploded across my tv. Loved it.

    - Gwen -

Yeah, last thing you may have expected from that particular couple, huh? (Don’t wanna give anything away to those that still haven’t watched it.)

Do you think it was true to their characters? That they would reach the boiling point in that way? I appreciate the drama and the series progression.

Any solid 10-part series should play like a 10-hour movie, and this one did. Great payoff.

Yes, there will be a season 2 (check above in the “Notes” section…)

The Futon Critic (www.thefutoncritic.com) lists the Season 2 run as “2008-2009″ but there’s one thing to remember: There’s a writers’ strike going on, so who knows?

I liked the sex scenes throughout the season, minus the quickie jamie had at her restaurant with nameless chef boy. That scene was unnecessary!! Ian needs to come back. He is gorgeous!
