THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL Plays In Deep Space
If a science fiction remake plays in the outer regions of the galaxy, and nobody hears it, might it still bomb? We’re about to find out. Thanks to a creative marketing stroke by Twentieth Century Fox (no, that’s not an oxymoron), The Day The Earth Stood Still will be transmitted throughout the galaxy. Literally.

Of course, Fox’s press release wisely jokes about a “wide release” for the film… heh. Here’s how it works: On Friday, December 12, a transmission of the film will be sent into deep space, heading for the Alpha Centauri system, which is really far away. Just in case they don’t have Google Maps, here’s a picture of Alpha Centauri (on the left, dummy) without Hiltons and Denny’s locations noted. Insert your own joke here about the movie heading for Uranus.

Based on the speed of light, Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly’s beautiful images won’t reach any intelligent (or even stupid) life on Alpha Centauri until 2012. Crap reviews will then get back here by 2016, at which time the movie will have aired 1,248 times on TBS. Very funny.
Why not send the original Robert Wise classic into space first? Let’s see if the real Klaatu even likes it.

Thanks for saving me another $9.00 Norm. I’m glad the film industry is able to still turn out millior dollar crap amidst a weak economy.
Ha! damn, you’re funny.
You guys are both making me look good.
