The #1 Most Anticipated Movie of 2010

The movie review aggregate site Metacritic, usually a bastion of statistical orderliness, has created a list of 2010′s most highly anticipated films based on a method they’re describing as “completely unscientific.” They sampled lotsa lists and paid attention to buzz. I’m not even sure what that means but, hey, that’s more effort than I’ve expended on the topic. And the most anticipated film of 2010?

:: Inception
Director: Christopher Nolan
Release Date: July 16, 2010

Movie Poster for Christopher Nolan’s InceptionNolan assembles a crazy-good cast (Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead) for his Dark Knight follow-up, an astounding-looking sci-fi thriller. This one already looks like a shoe-in awards magnet for cinematographer Wally Pfister, Nolan’s long-time DP, and a three-time Oscar nominee. His look is sleek, dark, dramatic, and you can see that in the trailer.

Back to Metacritic’s list (check out the entire list here). Of the 20 movies on the list, eight are straight-up sequels. Then there are the “I’ve heard this before” titles such as Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, The A-Team redo, and the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. I’m wondering which will have its merits.

Personally, I’m looking forward to Scorsese’s Shutter Island, David O. Russell’s The Fighter, and Michael Winterbottom’s The Killer Inside Me. For starters.
