Trailer Tuesday: CHOKE

Chuck Palahniuk already had quite the loyal fan base and the film adaptation of his book, Fight Club, gained him an even larger following. So my initial thought is that Choke, a new film based on another of his novels, is going to do surprisingly well. However, there are two ways this might go wrong:
1) Screenwriter and director Clark Gregg (the ex-husband in The New Adventures of Old Christine) wrote his own interpretation of the novel — meaning a different ending which could potentially piss off those loyal fans.
2) It’s gotta be hard to market a movie where most characters have a sex addiction, the details of which, may make many cringe. The movie is full of graphic sex scenes. Enough that developing a green band trailer must have been difficult.

Fox Searchlight’s answer to the marketing problem was to give out anal beads at screenings.
Choke stars Sam Rockwell (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Joshua) as a colonial period actor and sex addict who chokes on food in fancy restaurants to receive friendship, love… and money from the person who saves his life. As all Palahniuk stories go, this one gets much more complicated than that and you’ll just have to trust me — it’s a good story.
Also starring: Anjelica Huston and Kelly Macdonald (No Country for Old Men)
Release Date: September 26, 2008
