Trailer Tuesday: GET SMART
We kick off our latest addition to Meet In the Lobby, Trailer Tuesday, with a two-for-one celebration. Here you get two Get Smart trailers, from the 2008 film adaptation of the Mel Brooks / Buck Henry TV series. Steve Carell is Maxwell Smart and, honestly, I can’t think of anyone better for the job. The teaser trailer sums that up perfectly. Trapped in the phone booth. I erupt into giggles.
I did wonder how far director Peter Segal (The Longest Yard, 50 First Dates) could stretch nostalgia before it got tiresome. The second trailer starts to support that suspicion. But then we see things blowing up, Anne Hathaway — kicking ass — finally on her way out of fairy tales and the 1800s, and the adorable Masi Oka (Ed. note: This is Allison writing…) of Heroes fame. It might just be enough. Get Smart opens June 20, 2008.
