I’m not sure I understand why this movie was at Sundance, let alone how it became the “comedy hit” of the festival. Andrew Fleming (Nancy Drew, The Craft) and Pam Brady (South Park, Team America) wrote this one, about a failed actor (Steve Coogan, 24 Hour Party People, Night at the Museum) turned high-school drama teacher trying to gain the respect of his misfit class.
Somewhere between being drugged by his students and endangering their lives by kicking garbage cans at their heads, the school’s principal discontinues the drama department. The kids band together with their teacher in hopes of putting on a fantastic show to win over their doubters. And thus, Hamlet 2 is born, involving time machines and a sexy, sexy Jesus.
