Trailer Tuesday: Jarmusch’s THE LIMITS OF CONTROL

Indie film directors can sometimes catch a wave of attention, hit heights, pull in a big-name Hollywood cast. Jim Jarmusch has spent three decades without that sort of flash (intended or otherwise), quietly delivering quintessentially offbeat stories since Stranger than Paradise took Special Jury Prize at the 1984 U.S. Film Festival (now Sundance). Jarmusch’s newest is The Limits of Control, his first since Cannes winner Broken Flowers, and his third full-length feature in ten years.
The Limits of Control Trailer
The cool dude who looks a little like Vondie Curtis Hall is Isaach De Bankole, an actor you 24 fans may know as President Matobo. He’s already appeared in three other Jarmusch films — including the excellent Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai — and he takes on a bit of Ghost Dog himself in this one.
He plays a disciplined loner doing something that appears outside the law (legal, moral or otherwise), a task that, according to press notes, “takes him through his own consciousness.” Sounds spooky. The Limits of Control follows his journey across Spain, in the process of completing a job whose objectives are not fully divulged to us… initially.
As you can tell, there are some wonderful Jarmusch veterans in the film: Bill Murray, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton. If only we could get Forest Whitaker…
