Trailer: KNOWING

I saw the first trailer for Knowing a while back and, while intrigued, wasn’t sold on it. Not because it was yet another disaster flick (I’m really bringing the holiday cheer these past two weeks, huh?) but because of Nicolas Cage. He’s just been stinking it up lately with nothing good thrown in between. After watching this second trailer, I’m still not sold on Cage but the film looks like it might manage to be entertaining anyway.

Knowing, directed by Alex Proyas (I, Robot and Dark City), is about a father (Cage) and son who get a look at a letter — full of only numbers — that was placed in a time capsule back in 1959 by an elementary school student. Cage discovers the numbers have meaning, specifically that they list the date for every major disaster that has happened … as well as a couple for those still to come.

Okay, it’s not just another disaster flick, but another seeing/changing the future flick, on the heels of Premonition and Next (another Cage film), which didn’t do so great. Is there any reason to think this will do better? Well, maybe its similarities with The Bible Code will bring some conspiracy theorists out of the woodwork. Don’t know about The Bible Code? There go four hours of your life to reading about it on the internet. There’s some serious stuff out there about how the Bible supposedly has predicted major disasters and events in history. After reading about that, you might just sit through Cage.

Release Date: March 20, 2009

Also, interesting: an old interview with writer Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko, Domino) when he was connected to the film.

This would be better if an awkwardly adult Haley Joel Osment was playing the son.
