Trailer Tuesday: PROM NIGHT

Feeling numb after reviewing what seemed like an endless amount of trailers for this summer’s blockbusters, there was only one way to beat it. Discuss the trailer for a deep, meaningful movie.

Somewhere along the way came Prom Night, the remake of the 1980s horror film starring Jamie Lee Curtis. The combination of low expectations plus the need for a good laugh made this trailer just right to wake me from my pre-summer slumber.

The Prom Night trailer is definitely capable of giving chills. Part of this is due to the creepy murderer that relentlessly chases Brittany Snow (Hairspray) around and around… her hotel room. And part of it’s due to all those high school memories that come flooding back. “This is the best time of our lives!” Funny how someone always says that (I’m not admitting anything!).

Directed by Nelson McCormick (from the now-being-remade The Stepfather and various short-lived TV shows), Prom Night will probably offer some thrills. However, it’s not a good sign when the original screenwriter (Stephen Susco of The Grudge fame) claims the current script does not resemble a single story idea from his original version. No matter — you can always go back to the original and watch Jamie Lee Curtis dance like there was no Footloose… I mean, tomorrow.

Prom Night opens on April 11, 2008.

    - Captain –

Possibly one of my favorite new phrases, thanks to Allison. I’ve already used it in conversation.
