Trailer Tuesday: SUNSHINE CLEANING

It comes from the producers of Little Miss Sunshine. (Their titles share just a little something in common.) And it also stars Alan Arkin. Sunshine Cleaning had some high expectations to meet at the 2008 Sundance Festival. And it seems to have let people down, the biggest complaint being the aimless happy ending.
Bought by Overture Films, Sunshine Cleaning has a vague 2009 release date. So why am I bothering to show it here? Because I thought Little Miss Sunshine had an aimless happy ending and look how well that turned out. Besides, if you’re only going to get this trailer, well it’s definitely worth it.

Sunshine Cleaning is about the head cheerleader (Amy Adams of Enchanted) that just couldn’t get her life on track after high school. She’s a single mom working as a maid, and having an affair with her old high school boyfriend. When she needs to put her son in private school, she comes up with a unique way to get the money for it by expanding her business … to include cleaning dead people’s homes and bloody crime scenes.
Also starring Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada), Steve Zahn (Rescue Dawn, Employee of the Month), and Mary Lynn Rajskub (24) , the trailer shows some great comedic and dramatic moments. It looks at two women who are failures — the kind of way a lot of people are failures. Not with a huge cartoon cloud of gloom following them. Not with a neverending series of unfortunate circumstances befalling them. But that sneaky kind of failure whose onset isn’t noticed — and one that doesn’t make them less of a person.
