Trailer Tuesday: THE WACKNESS
Is it already time to reminisce about the 90s? I guess so, as The Wackness revels in all its New York 1994 glory. (see our Wackness Sundance coverage)
Starring Josh Peck (various Nickelodeon shows, Drillbit Taylor) and Ben Kingsley (this summer’s The Love Guru), The Wackness follows a recent high school grad’s summer plans to sell weed under the cover of an ice cream cart, trade it for therapy sessions (Kingsley’s the shrink), and get closer to the girl he’s crushing on (Olivia Thirlby of Juno)… while DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince (you know, Will Smith) play on a boom box in the background.
This is no Pineapple Express. It’s not Half Baked. Maybe something more along the lines of Dazed and Confused? After generating buzz at Sundance and SXSW, The Wackness will open in New York and Los Angeles on July 3rd. Part of me is excited because I was there in New York in 1994 – and part of me cringes at what this might make popular again.
Director: Jonathan Levine (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane)
Also starring: Famke Janssen, Method Man, and Mary-Kate Olsen
