Who’s Been in Every Pixar Movie?

With WALL-E now out on DVD and Blu-ray, just about every cinema fan is watching this exceptional film again — or, for the first time. Seeing it this weekend reminded me: In a movie with remarkably sparse dialogue, the Pixar minds still found room for the one voice actor that’s been in every Pixar feature film. Every one. He has about four or five lines in Andrew Stanton’s mini-masterpiece, but he’s there, credited simply as “John.” I believe he’s the first human to speak in the film (not including Fred Willard’s character.)

Most film geeks know who it is. Do you?
He’s played… (scroll slowly to build the suspense)

:: Hamm in Toy Story (1995) and Toy Story 2 (1999) — and will again in Toy Story 3 (2010)…

:: P.T. Flea (remember the flea circus?) in A Bug’s Life (1998)…

:: The Abominable Snowman in Monsters, Inc. (2001)…

:: “Fish School” in Finding Nemo (2003)…

:: Underminer in The Incredibles (2004)…

:: Mack, and other characters paying homage to past ones — Hamm Truck, Abominable Snow Plow, P.T. Flea Car — in Cars (2006)…

:: Mustafa in Ratatouille (2007)…

Actor John RatzenbergerHe is former Cheers star John Ratzenberger. And his voice exploits go beyond Disney/Pixar’s features to include about a half-dozen videogames (all for Disney), and the English language-dubbed version of Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, among other projects.

Star Wars geeks know he pops up in The Empire Strikes Back. Real sci-fi/fantasy dorks go one further, and know of Ratzenberger’s appearances in Richard Donner’s Superman and Superman II.

Did you know this one?
