Woody Allen Remembers Ingmar Bergman
Woody Allen may be the late Ingmar Bergman’s greatest fan. Bergman’s The Seventh Seal shows up in Allen’s Love and Death (his best “absurdist” comedy). Bergman’s Wild Strawberries can be seen in Allen’s Deconstructing Harry. The pair would even have a cinematographer in common, the great Sven Nykvist.
On the occasion of Bergman’s passing, Woody Allen talks to Time Magazine’s Richard Corliss about the filmmaker that so affected his work and love of cinema. Allen even suggests an Ingmar Bergman “starter set” of must-watch movies.
