YOUNG@HEART Sings To Positive Reviews

Young @ Heart Movie PosterWe first profiled the documentary Young @ Heart last July, in anticipation of the current limited release. This feature about an elderly chorus performing rock-n-roll songs is now receiving nearly universal admiration from the critics.

A Rotten Tomatoes rating of 86 (89 from “Top Critics”) makes Young @ Heart the 7th best-reviewed film of the year (50+ reviews). Here are some worthy comments, including one from the other side of the opinion scale:

+ Kenneth Turan, L.A. Times: “You won’t believe it… but you’ll have a hard time resisting it.”

+ Stephen Holden, N.Y. Times: “To observe a fluctuating group of about two dozen singers whose average age is 80 perform… is to be uplifted, if slightly unsettled.”

+ Jason Morgan, “… could show audiences that documentaries don’t have to be stuffy, politically driven creations.”

- J.R. Jones, Chicago Reader: “The project reeks of commercial calculation.”

This amazing group of seniors from central Massachusetts just performed live Thursday night at the Wilshire Theater in Beverly Hills. Here are the video highlights… but that road trip to Cali is the movie I really want to see.

For their next live gig, they’ll screen the movie AND perform in person at the Newport International Film Festival fundraiser, Sunday afternoon, April 27th. How popular are these guys and ladies? Their website says “LA and Newport are our only live gigs for 2008 right now, really.”
